Queer It Up! Call for Artists

QUEER IT UP! 2011 CALL FOR ARTISTS

Queer It Up! 2011, part of the Pride Week in Peel events, is taking place on

Saturday, July 23, 2011 from 11:00 am to 6:00 pm

Port Credit Memorial Park

QIU organizers are calling for artists to participate in the 4^th annual Queer It Up! Community Fair, celebrating LGBTTIQQ2S* communities in Peel Region. We want you to create visual or digital art around the theme SHOW US YOUR PRIDE. This year’s theme provides artists with an opportunity to showcase their experiences of what it’s like to be Queer and Trans in Peel.

Entry Requirements:

1. Identify as LGBTTIQQ2S or ally and be connected to Peel Region.
2. Provide a description of your intended art submission.
3. Provide ten to twenty (10-20) digital images on CD/DVD, if available. Images should be presented in JPEG format with image size set to 300 dpi resolution, 4′′ x 6′′ image size, approximately. If submission is not yet complete, provide a sample of your past work.
4. A brief bio, including where we may have seen you before.
5. Agreement to donate your work to be auctioned at Queer It Up! 2011 (all proceeds will be used to fund future Pride events in Peel).

Entry Dates: Proposals can be submitted between June 10^st and July 1^st with “Call for Artist Submissions: (Your Name)” in the subject line.

Selection Process: The Queer It Up! Planning Committee will meet to decide which submissions will be showcased at QIU and will notify chosen artists of the decisions by July 4^th.

Timeline: Photos of selected artwork must be submitted by July 8^th and will be uploaded to the Pride Week in Peel website from July 11^th to July 22^nd 2011. Selected artwork will be showcased and auctioned off on July 23^rd at QIU.

Acceptable artwork: Any artwork that fits the theme SHOW US YOUR PRIDE will be accepted as a submission.  Overly sexual or explicit submissions may not be chosen as QIU is a family-friendly event.

Your name will be listed in the program for the day under “Artists.”

Easels and tables will be provided on the day of the exhibit.
