Get Ready to Queer It Up!

For Immediate Release

Peel Region Has Pride
Queer It Up! Saturday July 23, 2011

Mississauga, ON – Queer It Up! brings Pride to Mississauga for the 4th year on Saturday July 23rd from 11am – 6pm at Port Credit Memorial Park. Meet your fellow supporters at the park at 11am amidst great music and a community fair, make yourself a sign or a mask and join us as we march eastbound along Lakeshore at 12pm. A free barbeque starts upon our return and celebrations continue until 6pm with a dj, performances, prize giveaways, free on-site massage therapy sessions and a showcase of LGBTTIQQ2S* resources in Peel Region. Our host for the day will be Ryan G. Hinds, former Mississauga Citizen of the Year.

Queer It Up! is an annual event organized by Associated Youth Services of Peel (AYSP), the East Mississauga Community Health Centre (EMCHC), the Peel HIV/AIDS Network (PHAN) and community volunteers, celebrating Peel Region’s diverse LGBTTIQQ2S* communities. Queer It Up! would like to thank the Community One Foundation for sponsoring this year’s event.

Queer It Up! March and Community Fair Schedule
11:00 am: Welcome
12:00 pm: March
1:00 pm: Free barbeque
2:30 pm: Entertainment
5:00 pm: Wrap up and thank you

The event continues to be an opportunity to come together, to celebrate and to advocate for the creation of more safe spaces in Peel. As evident when reading the opinion piece “Letter: Don’t be so proud,” published in Wednesday’s Brampton Guardian, homophobia and transphobia are not a thing of the past. Join us on Saturday as we stand in solidarity against hate and celebrate all human rights.

*LGBTTIQQ2S: Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transsexual, Transgender, Intersex, Queer, Questioning, 2-Spirit
